Few television characters can claim to be the voice of a generation, but Daria's titular sourpuss has earned that honor. As a high school outsider, low on friends and high on observational humor, Daria Morgendorffer spoke for pretty much everyone who had more fun in English class than in PE.
Daria was a staple of MTV animation, and it took serious talent to bring this classic cartoon to life. Ironically, though, few of the show’s millennial fans know exactly who brought these characters to life, much less what they have been up to in the years since.
So, where is the cast of Daria now, and how has this sick, sad world been treating them? Keep reading to find out.

Tracy Grandstaff (Daria Morgendorffer)

During the heyday of MTV, Tracy Grandstaff was one of the network’s biggest talents, though most people tuning in wouldn’t recognize her by name. She played Daria, who originally appeared on Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, where Grandstaff was a staff writer.
Her career-defining voice role was a happy financial accident, as she explained to Vice in 2016: “The beauty of MTV back in the day was that it had no money. Everything was done really cheap. I was one of a few writers, and the only female writer, on staff. When it came to voicing characters, Mike Judge did most of them, and whatever female characters he didn’t want to do — they threw me in the booth.”
The character was successful enough that Daria got its own spinoff, with Grandstaff reprising her role as the titular teen misanthrope.
“[I have] a pretty monotone voice, and I think that’s why I landed Daria,” she said. “And the fact that our personalities are similar. When she went to series, they did get me an acting coach to make sure I could handle some of the bigger monologues.”
Along the way, she worked as a writer for another MTV comedy hit, The Tom Green Show, and worked regularly on the Video Music Awards. She went on to write for the Nickelodeon sitcom Taina before moving up into television’s executive ranks.
These days, much like her Daria character, Grandstaff prefers keeping a low profile and keeping her private life just that: private.

Wendy Hoopes played Daria’s best friend, an artsy outcast always down to comment on their sick, sad world.
In an interview with The Guardian, Hoopes got philosophical about the appeal of Daria’s title character: “The cynicism of someone like Daria is mature, but I think it also exists because we’re all discovering in high school what our own personal existentialism is.”
After Daria ended, Hoopes (who also played Daria’s mother and sister), was a regular on the short-lived network drama LAX. Her other appearances include Brotherhood, Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, and four (count ’em, four!) Law & Order shows.
The actress has also had small roles in a number of films over the years, including the MCU’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), in addition to working in theater. Her most recent screen credit was a 2024 episode of Blue Bloods.

Julián Rebolledo (Jake Morgendorffer)

Julián Rebolledo played Jake, the hapless normie father of the show’s sarcastic, sardonic title character.
This role was actually his first television project, and it helped open up some major doors for his career. He became a prolific voice actor on shows like Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego! Go!, and multiple incarnations of the Pokémon franchise.
While he also made live-action appearances on Law & Order and One Life to Live, voice work has been his most prominent niche. That includes not just TV but video game spots and commercial voiceovers.
Back in 2001, he cofounded Shut Up and Talk, now a division of his recording studio Hyperbolic Audio. Shut Up and Talk provides training for voice actors for projects of all kinds; in the years since its founding, Rebolledo has done voiceover work for hundreds of ads.

Alvaro J. Gonzalez (Trent Lane)

You know how some actors channel characters in a deeply uncanny way? It’s like that for Alvaro J. Gonzalez, who played Jane’s older brother (and frequent wheelman for misadventures) Trent.
The actor was actually much more driven than his slacker alter ego. In a 2018 interview with the Huffington Post, he said he landed the role because he “did the most voices.”
In response to a casting flyer for high school voices, he recorded an audition and “did an entire classroom full.” That included “the principal, the teacher, 10 kids in the class,” all based on a script he personally wrote.
After Daria ended, Gonzalez has tried his hand at a wide array of careers, including mortgage brokerage, sales, and advertising. Eventually, he landed at a company specializing in custom vitamins. That led to his alternative health career as a biomagnetist (“which is basically acupuncture without the needles,” he said).
He keeps his private life private, so we may never know whether he shares Trent’s biggest priorities: “music and taking naps.”

Lisa Kathleen Collins (Brittany Taylor)

Lisa Kathleen Collins played Brittany, who was basically the opposite of our main character in every way. Whereas Daria is a glum, misanthropic loner, Brittany was a happy-go-lucky, popular cheerleader.
On the show, this vapid homecoming queen was always the center of attention. But in real life, it turns out that Collins is a lot more like Daria than Brittany.
Minus an uncredited appearance on Spin City, all of Collins’ media work was as a voice actor. Daria and its two spinoff movies formed the core of her acting career. After Is It College Yet?, she retired from acting altogether.
The former voice actress has done an even better job than her peers at keeping a low profile, effectively disappearing from the public eye.

Marc Thompson (Kevin Thompson)

Marc Thompson voiced Kevin, the star quarterback and boyfriend to the equally airheaded Brittany. This was Thompson’s first role in television, and it helped launch what became a very prolific career.
In the decades since, he has been an in-demand voice performer, scoring extensive work for genre juggernauts like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and One Piece, plus hundreds of episodes of various Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! series.
His work has extended to video games as well, often reprising his familiar TV roles for titles such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Melee.
Thompson is also an audiobook narrator who specializes in genre titles. He is a very familiar name in the Star Wars community, having narrated dozens of books set in a galaxy far, far away.
The Bronx native has been married to Lesley Grogan since 2000, and they have two children together.
