President Donald Trump called for New Mexico to change its name to “New America” in a bizarre social media post, claiming the move would boost home values, raise incomes, and even put an end to what he called the state’s “crooked elections.”

His Monday Truth Social rant read in full:

New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America! The name would add great value and prestige to the State! Home Values and Incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag! Maybe even the Crooked Elections, that New Mexico is known for, would become honest again! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Now, this isn’t the first time Trump has floated changing the state’s name.

Back in September, the president posted a map of New Mexico with “Mexico” crossed out in red and replaced with “America.”

He revisited the idea earlier this month while endorsing Republican Greg Cunningham, who is challenging Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-NM) in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District. Trump began his video address, “Hello New America — formerly known as New Mexico.”

The president then insisted the decision was “up to you,” telling New Mexicans that it would be a “beautiful change” but that he’s “not going to push it.”

“A lotta people are liking it a lot,” he added.

The president has already made a habit of renaming geographic landmarks during his second term, including changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and, more recently, Lake Ontario to Lake America amid escalating trade tensions with Canada.

And during the signing of the executive order renaming Lake Ontario in late August, Trump even wildly floated oceanic name changes.

“If you think about it, we have a gulf, and we have a lake. Now all we need is an ocean. So maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific, or maybe we will change them both,” he said.
