In a post on Facebook on Sunday, March 15, the actress, 61, shared the heartbreaking news that her beloved pet died after spending six years beside her. Hatcher included about 20 photos of her dog, showing him playing, enjoying the outdoors, dressing up for holidays, and basking in his family's love.

"So I knew this day would eventually come, faster than I’d want it to— but in Pumpkin’s case, it was not before he had the chance to touch so many hearts and comfort so many souls, in ways I could never have anticipated," Hatcher wrote.
Pumpkin was part of the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles' dog therapy team, the actress shared, and her dog brought comfort to patients and staff alike. In one photo, Pumpkin wore a purple neckerchief with the hospital's logo, along with his hospital ID, and beamed widely for the camera.

"I’m gutted. I did, and would have done, anything and everything to make you well. I’m so sorry there weren’t answers," Hatcher continued. "Sometimes it’s just like that."
The actress wished Pumpkin "love and light as you journey onward," and thanked him once more for enriching her life. "Bless you, sweet Pumpkin. You were truly the best dog."
