WASHINGTON, D.C. (KFOR) - President Donald Trump ordered the American flag to be lowered throughout the nation for a week-long period in honor of the country singer.

News that Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 was shared Tuesday afternoon by her nephew. Her last public appearance came in June, following the purple ribbon cutting of Parton's truck stop outside of Nashville.
“By her example, we believed that anything was possible,” Her nephew said. “She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history.
Following a skipped visit to Dollywood on Aug. 14, Parton and her team responded to talk of issues surrounding her health. On Aug. 21, the singer confirmed that she was “still healin’” and “still workin'".

On Tuesday, the world mourned the sudden loss of the icon.
President Trump released a statement following the breaking news. Trump referred to Dolly as one of the greatest country singers ever, and said that this loss was felt by millions.
"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will," Trump wrote.
"In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one-week period beginning tonight at 6:00 p.m. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you."
Parton was not just a country singer; she was a worldwide icon whose impact expanded beyond the horizon. From her Imagination Library to Dollywood, and even starring in a few movies, Parton did it all.
