That timeless cartoon theme song is etched into our collective memory, but the Mystery Machine is about to get a gritty, modern makeover. Since debuting on CBS in 1969, the iconic Great Dane and his "Ruh-roh!" catchphrase have conquered everything from Saturday morning cartoons to the big screen. Now, Netflix is officially bringing the gang back for a live-action series that promises more chills than your average "meddling kids" adventure.

When will the Scooby-Doo series premiere on Netflix?
Filming begins in April 2026, and the full cast hasn't been announced yet. According to reports, the series won't premiere until 2027.

Everything to know about the Scooby-Doo Netflix series
Josh Applebaum and Scott Rosenberg and their production company—Midnight Radio—will be producing Scooby-Doo: Origins.
Applebaum has written and produced live-action content for animated characters before. He wrote Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(2014) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016). He was also the creator and writer on Happy Town and October Road and counts Alias and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol to his writing and producing credits.
Rosenberg was a producer on series such as Cowboy Bebop, Knightfall and Citadel. He has written such hits as Con Air, Gone in 60 Seconds and Jumanji: The Next Level.
Greg Berlanti will also serve as Executive Producer. Berlanti is best known for Supergirl, Blindspot, Arrow, Superman & Lois and Riverdale.
What will Season 1 of 'Scooby-Doo: Origins' be about?
Season 1 will essentially be the origin story of our crime-solving quartet and their fearful dog. During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but handsome new kid Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers
Hagen's credits include The Pitt, Be Careful What You Say, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley
Fortson has voiced characters on T.O.T.S., Duck Tales, and Trolls (tv series). Her acting credits include Transparent, The Pitt, and A Dog's Journey.
Paul Walter HauserPaul Walter Hauser
Paul Walter Hauser joins the cast as a series regular in a yet-to-be-named role. Hauser is best known for his Emmy and Golden Globe winning turn in Black Bird, as Stingray in Cobra Kai and as the title character in Richard Jewell. Hauser is also a professional wrestler.
