Nathan Fielder says that Elizabeth Holmes recently called him.

The infamous figure told Fielder “I trust you.”

Fielder’s new film You Can See Everything follows Holmes before she reported to prison.

Just ahead of the release of the buzzyYou Can See Everything, Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes reconnected.

Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary about the disgraced Theranos founder is lighting up the internet and box office, and after Fielder previously shared that “communication broke down” with Holmes and her partner Billy Evans, he’s now revealed the update that Holmes recently called him “out of the blue” from prison.

Fielder told Wired that he “didn’t even know she had an ability to reach out to me anymore,” because he hadn’t heard from her in over six months. And then, the week before You Can See Everything’s release, he realized that he had two missed calls, just as a third came in from the same number, and it was Holmes.

“I said, ‘Hey, how’s it going?’” Fielder recalled. “She asked how I was doing. I asked her if she had seen any stuff about the film coming out and how she felt about it all. She told me that she had seen some stuff, but most things she just isn’t seeing, so she’s heard things, but she hasn’t really read anything. And then, at the end, she said to me—’I trust you.’ I said, ‘OK, thanks.’”

The conversation continued, with the duo talking about Holmes’ kids, as well as “some updates” that Fielder’s says are “not really my place to share.”

“But then after that, she said again, at the end of the call—‘I trust you,’” he shared. “And I don’t know what she meant by that.”

In the early 2010s, Holmes became a notable Silicon Valley innovator through her company Theranos, which claimed to revolutionize the health care industry with cheap diagnostic testing that would screen patients for hundreds of diseases with just a few drops of blood. However, the technology was eventually exposed as a massive, multiyear fraud. Holmes is currently three years into an 11-year sentence (reduced to nine years for good behavior) for fraud and conspiracy.

You Can See Everything finds Fielder and a small camera crew embedded with Holmes, Evans, and their two young kids in the 34 days leading up to her reporting to prison.

Evans is as much a character in You Can See Everything as Holmes, and Fielder shared that the father of her two children “started trying to exert a level of control over the process that made it very hard to engage with him, and it was uncomfortable for us and A24.”

Fielder continued, “We sort of had to stop. Communication broke down basically, and we’ve been in that state for a little bit. So it’s been challenging in that way.”

You Can See Everything is now playing in theaters.
