Meghan Markle is in talks to return to acting with a role in Netflix’s The Gentlemen.
The Duchess of Sussex, 45, is being eyed for a part in the Guy Ritchie-created drama, PEOPLE has learned. The second season premieres Sept. 3, and a source tells PEOPLE that a third season is expected to be announced soon.
The talks are in “very early stages,” according to Deadline, while The Hollywood Reporter reports that the role “is currently being written, so it’s unclear how many episodes she would appear in.”
PEOPLE previously learned the Duchess of Sussex had been offered a major new project, marking her most significant acting role since leaving Suits. The offer also helped shape the timing of her and Prince Harry’s move back to Britain with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.

Meghan was starring in the long-running legal drama Suits when she met Prince Harry in 2016. She filmed her final episodes in late 2017 ahead of their 2018 wedding, saying at the time that she was leaving acting behind to begin a “new chapter.”
Despite telling Variety in a 2022 interview that she was “done” with acting, Meghan filmed a cameo as herself in Close Personal Friends, alongside Lily Collins and Jack Quaid. She was first spotted on set in Pasadena, Calif., in November 2025, where a source told PEOPLE she appeared “very relaxed and happy.”
“She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” the source said at the time.

Meghan also has a history with Netflix. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a deal with Netflix in 2020 to create documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming exclusively for the streaming giant, through a production company later named Archewell Productions. In 2025, they announced with Netflix that they are extending their creative partnership with a multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects.
The couple’s 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan became one of Netflix’s most-watched documentary debuts, and the pair also produced Live to Lead (2022), Heart of Invictus (2023) and Polo (2024). Meghan also starred in two seasons plus a holiday episode of her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan on the streamer.
