Megan Thee Stallion seemingly accused Klay Thompson of cheating on her in an Instagram Stories post on April 25

In a statement to PEOPLE, the rapper said she made the decision to end her relationship with Thompson, explaining that "trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable" for her

Megan Thee Stallion has called it quits with Klay Thompson.

The Grammy winner, 31, told PEOPLE in a statement on Saturday, April 25 that she decided to end her relationship with the Dallas Mavericks player, 36, several months after they took their relationship public.

“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay," Megan said in a statement. "Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”

Her statement comes after she shared a pointed post on her Instagram Stories earlier in the day appearing to accuse Thompson of “cheating” on her and claiming that she needed a “break” after dealing with him.

“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,’ ” she wrote in her post over a black background.

“Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season, now you don’t know if you can be 'monogamous????' ” she continued. “Bitch I need a REAL break after this one .. bye yall.”

PEOPLE has reached out to a rep for Thompson.

While Megan did not name Thompson in the post, the pair have gone public with their romance, and the “Mamushi” rapper shared several loved-up photos with the NBA star in recent months. In late March, she posted a mirror selfie of herself posing in front of the Dallas Mavericks star as he held her waist.

Thompson gave Megan a powder-blue Bentley for her birthday in February, and the two also celebrated the occasion with a tropical vacation. She captioned an Instagram post about the getaway, “Aw man I was not ready for this birthday trip to be over 🥹. A time was definitely had🏝️🍹🥳 THANK YOU BABY⚓️.”

In January, Megan opened up to PEOPLE about her relationship with the Dallas Mavericks player, saying that he came into her life when she least expected it.

“Well, I don't never want to tell [anybody] to just jump in a relationship just because everybody else got one, and I'm not going to tell you to just jump in a relationship because you have to,” the "HISS" rapper said. “I didn't even know I was going to be in my relationship, to be honest.”

Megan said that since entering the relationship, however, “This is one of the first times that I've ever been just overly comfortable."

She added with her signature giggle: “I'm comfy, babe!”
