The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender got a whole lot bigger in season 2 thanks to a wave of new characters from the Earth Kingdom and beyond.

As Aang (Gordon Cormier) continues his journey to master the elements in season 2, which Netflix released on June 25, he crosses paths with several fan-favorite characters from the beloved animated series — including the highly anticipated blind earthbending master Toph Beifong.

Miya Cech as Toph Beifong

Deadlinereported in September 2024 that Miya Cech was cast as fan-favorite character Toph, a blind earthbending master who becomes one of Aang's teachers.

Executive producer Christine Boylan described Toph as "the tank" of the group, telling Tudum in June 2025 that the You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvahactress "understood everything about Toph, in terms of quips, in terms of negging all her friends to show love and affection, in terms of her confidence.”

Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee

Amanda Zhou was added to the Avatar cast in November 2024 as Joo Dee. According to Variety, her character is a public servant who works as a guide for important visitors to Ba Sing Se.

The Spinning Out actress told The Nerds of Color that fans can "expect a performance rooted in the mystery" of the Earth Kingdom capital.

"I wanted to capture her essence of being welcoming while hinting at the layers underneath that make Joo Dee such an interesting part of the story," Zhou said in June 2026. "We get to see just how much Joo Dee truly loves Ba Sing Se."

Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong

Crystal Yu stepped into the role of Lady Beifong, Toph's mother.

After announcing her casting in a November 2024 Instagram post, the actress hinted at her character's protective nature by writing, "Time to keep an eye on my daughter @miyacech."

Lourdes Faberes as General Sung

In November 2024, Lourdes Faberes joined the Avatar cast as General Sung. Her character was described by Variety as a high-ranking commander in the Earth Army.

Rekha Sharma as Amita

Rekha Sharma was cast as Amita, a refugee from Omashu who was not in the original animated series.

Showrunner Raisani told GamesRadar+ in June 2025 that the live-action show isn't a "one-to-one" with the source material, and that he hoped fans would get "a new experience in a new journey."

Chin Han plays Long Feng, the leader of Ba Sing Se's secret police.

The Mortal Kombat actor told Numéro Netherlands in May 2026 that his character "understands that information is power," but added that his "motivations are not always clear."

Hoa Xuande was cast as Professor Zei, who heads Ba Sing Se University's anthropology department.

In the original series, the character was obsessed with uncovering Wan Shi Tong's library, per Variety.

The Brothers Sunstar Justin Chien took the Earth Kingdom throne in season 2 of Avatar as King Kuei.

In a January 2026 interview with Behind the Blinds, the actor said that his live-action take on the character is "slightly different from the original."
