It might be time for Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio del Toro to gear back up.

Since the 2018 release of the sequel *Sicario: Day of the Soldado*, rumors have persisted about a third film, and now producer Thad Luckinbill is providing a positive update, revealing that “there have been” discussions.

“We’re hoping to do it, so fingers crossed,” he tells **. “It would be great to get to do another one for the fans. And, honestly, for me, too. Like, I’m a fan of it. Even though I produced it, I wanna see it.”

And Luckinbill definitely has a direct line to *Sicario* writer Taylor Sheridan, considering he currently stars on Sheridan’s *Lioness**. *The spy thriller is just one of the many shows in Sheridan’s empire, and so Luckinbill realizes the biggest obstacle could be getting the prolific creator to take a break from TV.

“It’s hard; he’s so busy,” Luckinbill admits. “But the world he created is there, so let’s hope.”

Luckinbill’s optimism comes as one of his stars, Brolin, declared that *Sicario 3* is “happening” and “soon.”

Serving as Sheridan’s screenwriting debut, 2015’s *Sicario* was directed by Denis Villeneuve and followed FBI agent Kate Macer (Blunt) as she joins a task force led by a colorful CIA officer, Matt Graver (Brolin), and a mysterious Mexican prosecutor turned CIA-trained assassin, Alejandro Gillick (del Toro). Nominated for three Oscars, *Sicario* was named the second-best film of the year by EW.

In 2018, Sheridan, del Toro, and Brolin returned under the direction of Stefano Sollima, who helmed the sequel, *Day of the Soldado*. Sollima previously said he intended to stay away from a proposed third installment.

“Every movie in these series needs to be a standalone that stays in the same world,” Sollima said at the time. “I’d love to watch another chapter of *Sicario*, but it should be from a different director who has their own specific style. You shouldn’t have more than one film from the same director. Then it would be too much like a real franchise.”
