This article contains spoilers for the Bridgerton season 4 finale.
Lady Danbury may have been preparing to go on a much-needed holiday at the end of Bridgerton season 4, but her time in the ton is far from over.
Adjoa Andoh isn’t departing the Regency-era romance series anytime soon, series showrunner and producer Jess Brownell confirms to Entertainment Weekly. “You'll see Lady Danbury next season,” she says.
The news comes amid frenzied speculation from fans about Lady Danbury’s future on the Shondaland series after much of her season 4 storyline centered around convincing Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) to grant her a break from her duties so that she could visit her childhood home.

Brownell explains that the decision to have Lady Danbury separate herself from the Queen wasn’t to grant Andoh an exit, but instead to push the friendship dynamic between the characters to grow and evolve.
“I think, for us, it was more about exploring the themes this season of relationships that have a power imbalance and trying to find a way to shake up that power imbalance between Lady Danbury and the Queen,” she says. “I think after what they've been through this season, it's safe to say that the Queen is finally going to be treating Danbury more as a peer.”
A large portion of Bridgerton season 4 focused on the inherent power dynamics that exist within the ton and how they affect everyone’s lives, from the Queen and Lady Danbury's friendship; to maid Sophie (Yerin Ha) and rakish socialite Benedict (Luke Thompson) being kept apart due to their statuses; to head housekeeper Varley (Lorraine Ashbourne) departing Featherington House over poor treatment.

With Lady Danbury now serving a singular role as Queen Charlotte’s bestie, Brownell says that the requests that the royal usually asked of her pal will be instead passed on to her newest lady-in-waiting, Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi).
“I think Alice going forward will fulfill more of that service role that Danbury sometimes filled with the Queen,” she explains. “And Danbury will get to just be a good friend to the Queen going forward.”

But don't worry, Lady Danbury and the Queen are still going to get up to plenty of hijinks together next season.
“We just wanted to switch up the dynamics so that we weren't just stuck in the pattern of Danbury being at the Queen's beck and call and meddling in relationships,” Brownell says. “They’re still going to meddle in relationships, but with some new flavor going forward.”
Season 4 of Bridgerton is streaming now on Netflix.
