A How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel is in development.
Kate Hudson is producing the project for Paramount.
Hudson and Matthew McConaughey reportedly could star in the film.
Kate Hudson is trying to figure out how to gain a sequel to a rom-com classic after two decades.
A follow-up to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is in the works at Paramount with Hudson onboard as a producer, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.
The intent is to have Hudson and Matthew McConaughey return, but that will be determined once the studio hires a writer and lands on a take for the story, according to Variety, which first reported the news.

Released in 2003, the Donald Petrie-directed rom-com starred Hudson as Andie Anderson, a columnist for a women’s magazine who is inspired to write an article about dating a guy and driving him away in 10 days. Coincidentally, McConaughey’s ad exec Benjamin Barry is looking to prove to coworkers that he can pitch women, so he bets that he can make any woman fall in love with him in, well, 10 days. The two soon cross paths, of course, and a romance develops.

The film grossed over $175 million and landed in the middle of McConaughey’s rom-com heyday, before he eventually pivoted to more dramatic fare. The Oscar-winner recently declared How to Lose a Guy to be “the gift that keeps on giving.”
“I think it’s, probably, my favorite rom-com I’ve done, and a lot of people love that rom-com,” McConaughey said, revealing the nice residuals that he makes off of it. “And it still pays the best mailbox money of any film I’ve ever done. By far. By lengths ... When it used to be just DVDs or cable, every March I’d get a big check because Valentine’s Day.”
Earlier this year, Hudson earned her second Oscar nomination for Song Sung Blue, but she’s doing her best to keep romance alive on TV and film. She currently stars on Netflix’s Running Point, in which she’s been paired up with Jay Ellis and Max Greenfield, and her next film is the rom-com Hello & Paris, featuring Hudson and Javier Bardem.
Meanwhile, McConaughey will next be seen reigniting his bromance with Woody Harrelson in Apple TV’s Brothers.
