Jon Stewart and the anchor chair at “The Daily Show” will not be parting anytime soon.
Comedy Central announced that Stewart of Colts Neck will continue to host “The Daily Show” on Mondays through December of 2028 and will continue to co-executive produce the show.
“Jon Stewart is a generational talent and 'The Daily Show' continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central,” said George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer for Skydance TV, in a statement. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team.”
“The Daily Show” recently hit an eight-year third-quarter viewership high among all viewers and its social channels surpassed last year’s viewership benchmarks with 1.9 billion views, according to Comedy Central. It's the most viewed cable program on social media in 2026.
Stewart's role in “The Daily Show” was in question as David Ellison, an ally of President Donald Trump, acquired Paramount, owner of Comedy Central, in August 2025, and purchased Warner Bros. earlier this month
Trump is a frequent target of Stewart's barbs on “The Daily Show.”
“If I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go, ‘I’m out.’ Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole,” said Stewart to the New Yorker. “You don’t compromise on what you do, and you do it until they tell you to leave.”

The agreement means Stewart will be on board through the 2028 presidential election.
“The Daily Show” news team of Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic with Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt will remain intact. The executive producing team of Stewart, Jen Flanz and Stewart’s long-time manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon, will also remain.
Stewart grew up in Lawrenceville and was a bartender at the former City Gardens in Trenton, which was recently demolished after being closed for several decades. Stewart and his wife operate a farm for rescued animals in Colts Neck.
Upcoming appearances include a stand-up show Nov. 6 in Ovation Hall at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City where his band, Church and State TM, will open. Stewart is also performing at the annual Stand Up for Heroes veterans’ benefit, Nov. 9 at David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center, New York City. Bruce Springsteen is also on the bill.
