Jennifer Garner appeared on the latest episode of Emma Grede’s “Aspire” podcast.
The actress explained how her approach to working changed after breaking up with Ben Affleck.
Garner and Affleck divorced in 2018 and share three children.
Jennifer Garner explained how her divorce from Ben Affleck affected her career in a new interview. Appearing on the latest episode of Emma Grede’s “Aspire” podcast, the actress admitted that her mindset about work changed after splitting with her husband of over a decade.
“I panicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my work,” Garner recalled. “Suddenly, I realized I don’t know how long I’ll be able to work. It isn’t a career that’s like, ‘Hey, you’re 60. You’re 55. You’re 43, come on, let’s pay you more than you’ve ever made!’ You know what I mean? That’s not traditionally been the role.”

Garner shares three children—Violet, Fin, and Samuel—with the Good Will Hunting actor, 54.
“I was suddenly like, ‘Wait a minute. I have to take care of myself. I have to take care of these kids,’” she said, adding that she consulted with a business partner to iron out a realistic work schedule.

“I said, ‘I can work in Los Angeles. I can’t leave these kids for six months at a time,’” Garner continued. “I would love to. I love going on location. That is not this time in my career.”
The 13 Going on 30 star separated from Affleck in 2015, with their divorce being finalized in 2018.

“It’s not like you can just un-famous yourself,” Garner told Grede, founding partner of Skims. “Life is expensive, and you still have to kind of figure out how you’re gonna live. Just because you’re well-known by people does not mean that there is some great living being provided for you. It became very serious to me really quickly as someone who had never given a lot of thought to money.”
“I was so lucky to be able to luxuriate in working some and being home and being a mom a lot of the time,” she added. “I was really grateful for that opportunity. I got to kinda have the best of both worlds. So I can’t really look back and complain about any of it. It just, it is what it is.”
