Rapper and country star Jelly Roll kicked off his guest-hosting stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live! by taking aim at President Donald Trumpā€˜s health. The musician, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, won over the audience by sharing jokes about his own major body transformation while also bringing up reports about Trump’s health.

According to a White House medical report released in May, the president weighed somewhere around 238 pounds. That result placed him just 1.6 pounds below the obesity threshold. The report also indicated that Trump gained 14 pounds, adding up to a total 23-pound increase since 2023, as reported by The Daily Beast.

Jelly Roll Says ā€˜A Lot of Doctors Are Worried About the President’s Weight’

Opening his monologue, the singer pointed out recent health news about the president. ā€œA lot of doctors are worried about the president’s weight,ā€ he began. ā€œAfter his last physical, we found out Trump gained 14 pounds, which means he is now tipping the scales at almost 240. That’s crazyā€.

Roll then used his own health journey to deliver a punchline. ā€œThink about this, y’all, in the last few years I’ve lost 300 pounds. That means I’ve lost an entire Donald Trump,ā€ he said.

He then took a jab at Trump’s approval ratings. ā€œAnd let’s be honest, based on his approval ratings, it seems like most of the country wants to do the same thingā€.

The Grammy-winning singer jokingly suggested that people ā€œshould take it easyā€ on Trump. He also joked that the president ā€œwould never do that to other people.ā€

The late-night show then cut to old video clips showing Trump mocking the physical appearance of various public figures over the years. In the old clips, Trump was heard making comments like ā€œHe’s actually fatter than everā€ and ā€œI refuse to talk about the fact that he’s a fat slob.ā€

Reacting to the video, Jelly Roll said, ā€œWell, if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle fat.ā€

Per The Wrap, the singer’s appearance is the second time the show recruited him as a rotating summer stand-in host. He has previously won three awards at the Grammys. Speaking about his past struggles, including prison time and growing up around drug addiction, he once told reporters, ā€œI didn’t even know politics were [expletive] real until I was in my mid-20s in jail.ā€

Netizens React to Jelly Roll Talking About Trump’s Weight

After the clip of Jelly Roll making fun of Trump’s weight went viral online, social media users shared mixed thoughts about his punchlines.

One viewer criticized his comedy, writing, ā€œMocking a politician’s weight with a crude joke isn’t advocacy-it’s just another form of bullying. Would the same joke be celebrated if aimed at a Democrat?ā€

Another angry user wrote, ā€œJelly Roll is such a fool. He had done well but now he is scrapping the bottom of the barrel on Kimmel!!! Can’t stand jelly Roll now. Never watch Kimmel and never will!!!ā€

ā€œSome dude with face tattoos… Really. And lame fat shaming Jokes. Jelly Roll,ā€ wrote another.
