INGLEWOOD, Ca. — No one can grade Tim Weah's performance more harshly than he did.
Weah returned to the U.S. men's national team's starting lineup in the 3-2 loss to Turkey on Thursday, June 25, and it did not go well. Weah's inability to keep pace with Turkey's players left the USMNT exposed time and again, and he wasn't crisp on the ball.
"I think I played a horrible game today. Disappointed in myself," Weah said. "We managed to come back and score the tying goal, and I think my teammates did an amazing job. Me from a personal level, I think I played a horrible game. It's just one of those days where nothing worked for me."

The loss wasn't all on Weah. With nothing at stake in the game — the USMNT had already clinched the top of Group D and Turkey was already eliminated — and four indispensable starters carrying yellow cards, coach Mauricio Pochettino made wholesale changes to his lineup.
Weston McKennie was the only carryover from the lineup that started against Paraguay and Australia. Miles Robinson and Mark McKenzie were making their World Cup debuts, and Matt Turner got his first minutes in this tournament.
"Turkey was just really good today," Weah said. "Going into the next game, we just have to fix a few things. I think there's going to be some different people out there so we'll have that bit of a buzz."
