Cheryl Hines had to be physically carried through the Washington Hilton ballroom after shots were fired and a suspect apprehended at the 2026 White Hose Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night.

"Okay, so I just got back from the White House Correspondents' Dinner," the former *Curb Your Enthusiasm* star, who is married to Trump cabinet member Robert F. Kennedy Jr, says in an Instagram story posted just before midnight ET. "That was a crazy, um, moment in time."

Just after 8:30 p.m. ET, gunfire was exchanged and live video footage captured Secret Service agents entering the ballroom and escorting the president out of the room. One Secret Service officer was injured during the incident, Washington, D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser said. At a press conference after the shooting, Trump said the officer was saved by his bulletproof vest.

"We were there and we heard shots and, um, everybody got under the tables," continues Hines, who refers to her husband, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, as Bobby. "Nobody knew what was going on, and then, um, you know, Bobby's security detail surrounded us and took us.... I mean, really, like, had to lift me over chairs, because I'm in heels and and a gown, and, um, and they took us through all of the back ways, and we, uh, got in the car, and left. So, anyway, I'm just giving you a little update."

Trump shared a video on his Truth Social account of the suspect storming the White House Correspondents' Dinner, as well as a photo of the suspect on the ground after being apprehended. At his aforementioned press conference, the president called the suspect "a sick person, a very sick person," adding that the suspect "charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service."

Trump posted that he wanted to "LET THE SHOW GO ON" but ultimately "Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately."
