Bret Michaels will be taking the rest of the year off as he continues to recover from his kidney stone surgeries.
The 63-year-old Poison frontman took the stage in Sugar Hill, Ga. on Friday, Aug. 21 for his first show back after a series of postponements in the wake of the recent procedures. The return was short-lived, however, as the musician announced the following morning that he will be taking off the remainder of the year, citing doctorsā orders.
āFollowing Bret Michaelsā comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries,ā the musicianās company, Michaels Entertainment Group, said in a statement shared on Facebook on Saturday, Aug. 22.
The musician, who was set to perform at Mountain Music Festival on Saturday, Aug. 22, āwill be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%,ā the statement said.

Saturdayās post also included a statement from Bretās doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, who said the āEvery Rose Has Its Thornā singer needs a āmuch-needed period of rest and slow recovery.ā
āWe will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being,ā the doctorsā statement said. āHe wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.ā
In the statement, Michaelsā company offered its ādeepest apologies,ā stating that āwe were truly looking forward to the rest of this yearās shows, including The Mountain Music Festival, private events and all the great shows coming up.ā
āWe now look ahead and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock,ā the statement concluded.
The announcement that Michaels will be taking the rest of 2026 off comes just one day after Michaels said he was ready to return to the stage following his āmedical situationā in a Friday post.

In the post, the Poison frontman said, āI am so excited for my first show back tonight since the medical situation after Spokane and then several other incidents.ā
āFor the first time ever, and after the recent surgery, I may be wearing the infamous black travel rock ānā roll sweatpants šø,ā he continued in the same post. āBut I will be giving 100% of everything Iāve got! If all goes well, I canāt wait for the The Mountain Music Festival tomorrow.ā
Michaelsā return came after he took several weeks to recuperate until a stent was removed following an āimmediate complicated obstructing kidney stone surgery.ā He underwent the procedure after experiencing āsevere kidney painā during a Washington show on July 18.
Michaels first revealed that he underwent surgery to have a kidney stone removed after enduring the pain for three performances on July 22.
As his weeks-long break was announced on July 27, one of Michaelsā doctors noted that the rockerās recovery is complicated by his āunderlying health factors,ā including his lifelong Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis.
āBecause Type 1 Diabetes inherently compromises the immune system and impairs healing, he faces an exceptionally high risk of contracting a serious UTI or developing urosepsis, a blood infection, until the stent is removed,ā Borhan said at the time. āThe demanding nature of a high-intensity tour schedule makes it impossible to maintain the sterile environments, strict hydration schedules, frequent rest, and precise blood glucose management required for his safe recovery.ā

At the time, Michaels said he was āforever grateful for the amazing medical treatment and ongoing medical attention throughout my personal life and career, and truly grateful for family, friends, fans, band, crew and promoters for their understanding and, if all goes well, will hit the road late August back to delivering 1000% energy, intensity and truly nothing but a good time.ā
