Bari Weiss is looking to add former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo to CBS News lineup

The editor-in-chief of CBS News wants to add fired CNN anchor Chris Cuomo to the network’s lineup of stars, according to a report.
Bari Weiss has overseen significant changes since she was appointed to the role in October, with a number of high profile figures leaving including former 60 Minutes stalwart Anderson Cooper.
In a bid to attract more big-name talent, the editor-in-chief is in talks with Cuomo to join the network, sources told Status.
Oliver Darcy, a journalist at the publication, said Weiss was “enraptured” by Cuomo and had already met him in person. The pair, he reports, met for a meal and have often swapped text messages.
If a deal did go ahead, Cuomo would join CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil as another high-profile Weiss appointee.

However one potential obstacle is Cuomo’s current contract with NewsNation, which announced in 2024 it had signed a multi-year deal with the former CNN anchor. Cuomo also launched Cuomo Mornings on SiriusXM just this year, with the live show featuring guests including Senator Rand Paul.
The Independent has contacted CBS News for comment.

While Cuomo has yet to comment on the potential career move, he did this week shoot down a suggestion he could join NBC News’ Meet the Press.
“I would be very different but I would not do it,” he wrote on X Sunday. “There is a farce at play on the sunday shows...transparency and accountability are very difficult to achieve.”
Cuomo was fired by CNN back in 2021 for helping his brother, ex-Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, after the latter was accused of sexual assault. Andrew Cuomo has denied all wrongdoing.
“This is not how I want my time at CNN to end, but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother,” he said in a statement at the time.

Weiss’appointment last year followed a merger of Paramount Global, CBS News’ parent company, and Skydance Media, which was founded by billionaire and Trump ally David Ellison.
Since then, critics have accused her of steering coverage to favor the Trump administration, leading to backlash from current and former staff.
Former 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley was fired by the program’s executive producer Nick Bilton after reportedly accusing Weiss of “murdering” the news program.
Weiss has denied the claims of editorial interference and in June she told The Wall Street Journal she was just doing her job.
“What’s being called ‘editorial interference’ is in reality the job description of an editor in chief,” Weiss said.
