Ariana Grande has announced the death of her 17-year-old dog, Coco, amid her previously announced hiatus from public appearances.
The pop star and actress, 33, revealed news of Coco’s death on Monday in a social media post filled with numerous photos of the pair. The beloved dog previously starred alongside Grande in music videos for 2011’s “Put Your Hearts Up,” and the 2020 single, “Positions.”
“Sweetest, most amazing and most beautiful coco … i am so proud of you,” Grande wrote in the Instagram caption. “Thank you for your love, and for blessing this planet with your physical presence for over seventeen wonderful years.”
She added, “You make everywhere you go a more beautiful place” before sending Coco off with a farewell message.
“I will miss you every day and hold you in my heart always,” Grande continued. “I love you so, sweet girl.”
Among the photos Grande shared those of herself cuddling Coco, in addition to an adorable shot of the pup posing with her 17th birthday cake — while wearing a pair of green dog shoes.
A video in the carousel sees Coco preparing for what Grande describes as her “morning leap,” ultimately jumping from a cement pad onto a walkway as the Oscar nominee cheers.
The final image in the carousel shows a black-and-white image of Coco’s paws laying amid a set of roses.

Grande announced Coco’s death amid the singer’s ongoing hiatus from public appearances, which was confirmed earlier this summer amid her Eternal Sunshine album tour and coinciding rollout of her new album, Petal. Preceding the hiatus, many critics repeatedly criticized Grande’s body, prompting the star to address the backlash on stage in Chicago.

During the Sept. 1 show, the star said she heard that “my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me. But, I just have to say, that could not be more the f--- opposite.” Grande added that “multiple things can be true at the same time.
“Boundaries need to be set,” she continued. “Human beings can need a break sometimes.”
Grande first shared news that she got Coco in 2010, while she was still a regular on the Nickelodeon series, Victorious.
