‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Promo Reveals First Look at Ryan Phillipe’s Character

9-1-1: Nashville is expanding its cast in Season 2, premiering on Thursday, October 15, and the first promo offers a look at the newest member.
At a crime scene, Captain Don Hart (Chris O’Donnell) sees Ryan Phillippe‘s character approaching and asks, “Who are you?” The detective introduces himself. Watch the video below. It also includes a look at 9-1-1 Season 10 and Athena (Angela Bassett), now a detective, in the middle of some sort of collapse, promising someone, “We’re coming to you!”
With the introduction of Phillippe’s detective, Kelly, as a series regular, the 9-1-1 spinoff is adding the police element that is present in the original series and was part of the Lone Star. This first exchange with Don could be particularly interesting since when TV Insider spoke with showrunner Rashad Raisani about the Season 1 finale in May, he’d said that it’s possible that Kelly might have crossed paths at one point with the fire captain’s wife, Blythe (Jessica Capshaw), or they’ll at least be “some sparks.”
“He’ll be playing this sort of maverick detective who comes in and he’s kind of a disruptor in a different way, and he’ll get in Don’s craw, but he’ll also have a real affinity and friendship with Ryan [Michael Provost], Don’s son. And it will start almost this weird father-son triangle with somebody else,” teased Raisani.
The showrunner also revealed that with the addition of Kelly, there will be a major arc with a criminal “who’s creating 9-1-1 calamities for our firefighters and our first responders. [With] a criminal element underneath it, the police can get involved and our teams can work together with Ryan Phillippe’s character to get to the bottom of this.”

These attacks are “incredibly biblical in scope and I think a very almost True Detective-y kind of feel for us, which we’re just really excited to see that to go into a bit more of a spookier, creepier place, but still having the big scope that we’re used to and our character dynamics that we’ve really grown into,” Raisani added.
